Cloud Connectivity

Understand the benefits of a cloud-connected EV charger

1. Keeping you connected

All of our chargers connect to the internet to allow us to provide great support, keep them up to date, and ensure they remain controllable via the Evnex mobile app. Wi-Fi connectivity is available across our product range, and some include an LTE-M cellular connection (at no cost for home residential use). X-Series chargers can also make use of an ethernet connection.

If the internet connection is unavailable for 28 days, then by default the charger will fall back into "Plug and Charge" mode, whereby it simply starts charging as soon as the cable is plugged in. Charging data won't be available through the app, and smart settings unable to be configured until you reconnect. If you prefer instead to ensure you never miss any charging data, you can opt to have the charger become disabled until it gets reconnected.

2. Opportunities for Greener Charging

Electric vehicle adoption and clean energy generation, such as rooftop solar and wind generation are driving change to both the supply and demand of electricity. Our overall energy consumption is increasingly being provided by electricity, and this is likely to accelerate in years to come. Therefore we require technology solutions such as smart EV charging, to manage how and when we use electricity.

3. Creating Sustainable EV Charging Infrastructure

EV charging can consume a significant proportion of a typical household's electricity capacity when charging at full speed. This may create issues for electricity networks and utilities when scaled across many homes and neighbourhoods. At certain times there will be peaks in overall electricity demand that need to be managed to ensure networks are able to cope with the peak demand.

Our smart charging solution will eventually make it possible for lines companies and energy retailers to offer EV charging demand flexibility, seamlessly integrated as part of the distributed energy resource system. We have already participated in a number of trials of this technology, such as with Vector, Genesis and the EEA.

Whatever incentives your retailer provides, we believe the driver must always retain ultimate control and so all of our chargers have a mode called "Charge Now", which will simply charge your car as quickly as possible straight away. This can be activated through the driver app, or on E2 chargers by pressing and holding the button on the front until the LEDs go blue and there is an audible indication.
